The Packers annual charity softball game took a turn for the worse on Saturday: while Green Bay’s outside linebacker Clay Matthews was on the mound, a hit connected with his nose. The 6-time Pro Bowler was rushed to the emergency room to learn that the line drive had broken his nose.

After Matthews walked off the field, Davante Adams (host of the event) told the crowd that his teammate had merely “got a little boo-boo on his nose.” After it was all said and done, Clay updated his fans on the injury via Twitter to let them know he was ok:
Thank you for all the concern and well-wishes. I busted my nose pretty good and will have surgery once the swelling subsides. Thankful as it could have been much more serious 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

This was a scary moment for the Packers organization; this injury could have potentially affected his 2018 NFL campaign. Although his broken nose will require surgery, the damage will likely not impact his off-season preparation.
Clay Matthews will look to bounce back from this freak accident and get back to his old form. He hasn’t been quite as good as we are used to, failing to make a Pro-Bowl appearance in the last three years. With a Super Bowl Championship already under his belt, Matthews is confident he can put the Packers in a position to be successful next season.
