NBA playoffs: Warriors, Knicks stave off elimination to force Game 6s

Stephen Curry scored 27 points and eight assists, Andrew Wiggins had 25 points, seven rebounds, and five assists, and the reigning champion Golden State Warriors defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 121-106 in Game 5 of the Western Conference playoffs Wednesday night.

LA’s LeBron James scored 25 and grabbed nine. Anthony Davis had 23 points and nine rebounds but left the game late after Kevon Looney seemed to punch him in the head.

After Austin Reaves’ 3-pointer with 5:25 left trimmed the Warriors’ advantage to single digits at 104-95, Curry scored five straight points and delivered another key shot after D’Angelo Russell’s 3-pointer.

Draymond Green scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as Golden State played aggressive defense to improve their offense, as coach Steve Kerr had urged.

Since losing to the Bulls on March 26, the Lakers are 5-0 at home in the playoffs and will host Game 6 on Friday night.

KNICKS 112, HEAT 103

AP—New York In Game 5 of the Eastern Conference playoffs, New York defeated Miami behind Jalen Brunson’s 38 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists.

The Knicks prevented the Heat from becoming the second No. 8 seed to reach the conference finals and pushed the series to Miami for Game 6 on Friday night.

The fifth-seeded Knicks, hoping to reach the conference finals for the first time since 2000, got 26 points from RJ Barrett and 24 from Julius Randle. They defeated the Heat in seven games in the second round, a potential that remains.

Miami’s Jimmy Butler scored 19 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds. Duncan Robinson scored 17, Bam Adebayo 18.
