Lawrence Okolie vs. Lukasz Rozanski: WBC Bridgerweight Title Bout Confirmed
Lawrence Okolie is set to challenge Lukasz Rozanski for the WBC bridgerweight title on May 24 in Poland, marking Okolie’s return to the ring after losing his WBO cruiserweight title to Chris Billam-Smith in May 2023.
The 31-year-old former British and European champion has opted to move up to the bridgerweight division, situated between cruiserweight and heavyweight, for this bout.
Expressing his confidence, Okolie stated, “Rozanski is a good champion with an explosive style but I’m coming to do some serious damage. He has never seen power like mine. I’m excited to go to Poland and test myself yet again on away ground.”
Born in London, Okolie represented Team GB at the 2016 Olympics, and his upcoming fight against Polish boxer Rozanski, who is 38 years old, will be his first above the 200lb limit.
The bridgerweight class, recognized by the WBC and WBA, was established in 2020 by the WBC. Rozanski, known for his knockout prowess, has secured victories in all but one of his 15 fights, claiming the bridgerweight title in April 2023 by defeating Croatia’s previously unbeaten Alen Babic in the first round.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the upcoming bout, Rozanski stated, “I’m defending my world title in my own backyard, in my city, fighting against a former world champion. It’s a fantastic fight. For moments like these, I’ve trained hard all my life.“
