"It's Unfortunate": Shoaib Akhtar Critical Of India Management On Jasprit Bumrah Fitness

Shoaib Akhtar, a former Pakistani fast bowler, believes that India might have controlled Jasprit Bumrah’s workload more better, given the Indian pacer is presently sidelined with an injury. In a recent conversation, Akhtar emphasised that Bumrah’s bowling motion is not sustainable for someone who wants to play the game for a long time. He even went on to say that Bumrah’s actions might wind up hurting his back in the long term.

Bumrah has not played for India in recent series and will also miss the Indian Premier League (IPL) owing to his ailment. Bumrah’s front-on movement, according to Akhtar, puts a lot of strain on his spinal cord, and since he doesn’t have the same leverage as other bowlers like Akhtar, the front-on motion has no compensation. As a result, no matter how hard one tries, it becomes tough to escape when the back gives way.

Bumrah sustained the injury in August 2022, and although there were expectations that he would come back for the T20 World Cup, a hasty return to the side resulted in the ailment being worsened. Since Bumrah’s action is not sustainable, Akhtar feels that the quantity of cricket he has played will ultimately lead him to break down.

He believes that India might have handled Bumrah better and that Bumrah could have been more conscious of the formats he should have avoided. Bumrah’s injury has kept him out of the Indian cricket squad, leading him to miss critical matches such as the T20 World Cup.
