After returning from the Indian Premier League with immediate effect due to right elbow issues, England fast bowler Jofra Archer may miss the Ashes series.
Archer, who has suffered many ailments since breaking into the international stage in 2019, has played with elbow pain in the IPL with Mumbai Indians.
The England and Wales Cricket Board announced Tuesday that Archer will return to Britain “for a period of rest and rehabilitation to give him the best opportunity for a full recovery.”
He’ll rehab with Sussex and England’s medical squad.
Archer must recover quickly to play in the first of five Ashes tests against Australia on June 16. His last test was against India at Ahmedabad in February 2021.
Archer may miss England’s Cricket World Cup defense in India in October and November due to another injury.
In his first test series, Barbados-born Archer helped England win its first 50-over global title in 2019 on home soil and shined in the home Ashes series later that year.
Mumbai is seventh in the 10-team IPL after 10 games.
