The Philadelphia 76ers unceremoniously parted ways with former President of Basketball Operations Bryan Colangelo after the burner account scandal in May.
Since then, head coach Brett Brown has taken over in the role on an interim basis. He’s handled the draft, including a draft night trade, and the bulk of free agency thus far.
The Sixers have not made a decision on who will be officially taking Colangelo’s position, but a report came out this week that they did their due diligence in trying to pry Rockets GM Daryl Morey away from Houston.
I don’t think this was ever going to work. Morey has always seemed happy in Houston and he gets to run things how he pleases, for the most part.
It was worthwhile for the 76ers to investigate, though. The Sixers are in a good position for an incoming GM and Morey is one of the smartest guys in basketball. He’s been a big time leader in pushing towards analytics in the NBA.
